Liverpool Initiates Discussions with Andoni Iraola
Liverpool is set to commence formal negotiations with Andoni Iraola this week regarding his potential appointment as the club's new head coach.
The Reds dismissed Arne Slot on Saturday, just one year after the Dutch manager led them to the Premier League title.
The club aims to appoint a successor promptly, with Iraola, the outgoing Bournemouth manager, emerging as the primary candidate.
Iraola's Achievements at Bournemouth
The 43-year-old coach guided Bournemouth to their best-ever season, securing a sixth-place finish in the Premier League. This position was just one place and three points behind Liverpool, earning the Cherries qualification for the next season's Europa League.
In April, Iraola announced his intention to depart Bournemouth this summer. He has also been linked with managerial roles at Crystal Palace and AC Milan.
Decision to Replace Arne Slot
The decision to relieve Slot of his duties was made by Michael Edwards, Fenway Sports Group's chief executive, and Richard Hughes, Liverpool's sporting director. They believe the club requires a more proactive, aggressive, and urgent style of play.
Iraola's appointment at Bournemouth coincided with Hughes serving as the club's technical director, a position he left in 2024 to join Liverpool.

Iraola, a former Spain international right-back, spent most of his playing career at Athletic Bilbao. He began his managerial career in Cyprus with AEK Larnaca.
Subsequently, he managed Mirandes and Rayo Vallecano in Spain before joining Bournemouth in 2023.
