Hugo Ekitike Suffers Suspected Achilles Injury
Hugo Ekitike is anticipated to miss the upcoming World Cup due to a suspected Achilles injury sustained during Liverpool's Champions League match against Paris St-Germain on Tuesday.
The French forward was taken off the field on a stretcher at Anfield, raising concerns at Liverpool about a potentially extended recovery period that could also affect the start of the next season.
On Wednesday, the 23-year-old underwent medical scans to determine the severity of the injury.
Player Background and Performance
Ekitike transferred to Liverpool from Eintracht Frankfurt in July last year and has emerged as one of the team's key players this season, recording 17 goals and six assists across all competitions.
Coach's Remarks on the Injury
"I think we could all see that it didn't look well and didn't look good. Let's wait and see what it will be. But we could all see it didn't look good.
In the second half, he went home so I haven't seen him yet. Losing a game is already very hard, especially in the way we lost it, but again - as it seems to be - losing a player is something we've had so many times this season.
It's especially very hard for him because you never want to be injured, especially not at this moment of time in the season."
These comments were made by Liverpool head coach Arne Slot following the match.
Career Milestones and International Prospects
In January, Ekitike became only the second Liverpool player, after Kenny Dalglish, to score in five different competitions during their debut season with the club.
He made his debut for the French national team in September and was expected to be included in Didier Deschamps' squad for the forthcoming World Cup.
Injury Challenges for Liverpool
Liverpool have faced multiple injury setbacks this season. Giovanni Leoni and Conor Bradley are both sidelined for the remainder of the season.
Additionally, Alisson Becker and Wataru Endo remain out due to injuries, while Alexander Isak recently returned from an ankle injury sustained in December.
