Lewis Koumas Eyes Wales Role Amid Hull City Success
Lewis Koumas scored on his first team debut for Liverpool against Southampton in February 2024.
The 19-year-old midfielder is hopeful that his current form with Hull City will enhance his chances of participating in Wales' forthcoming World Cup play-off campaign.
Since joining Hull City on loan from Liverpool in January, Koumas has scored three goals, including a crucial strike that helped Hull secure a 2-1 victory over Wrexham on Tuesday night.
He is now looking to make a significant contribution as Wales, managed by Craig Bellamy, prepare to face Bosnia and Herzegovina in the play-off semi-final at Cardiff City Stadium on Thursday, 26 March. The winner of this match will host either Italy or Northern Ireland in the final, scheduled five days later.
"It's a massive campaign. We're all looking forward to it and hopefully we'll get the job done," Koumas told BBC Radio Wales. "Hopefully I can make an impact and get put in."
Hull City Boost Play-Off Prospects with Win Over Wrexham
Koumas' previous loan spell with Birmingham City in the first half of the season saw limited impact. He made only seven starts in the Championship under manager Chris Davies and scored a single goal in a 3-2 victory against league leaders Coventry City.
Since moving to Hull City, Koumas has featured in all nine league matches, starting three of the last four games under manager Sergej Jakirović.
His headed goal against Wrexham highlighted his recent improvement and adaptation since joining the MKM Stadium side.
"It's a nice feeling to score in Wales and to pick up three points on the road," Koumas said. "It's a massive win. We knew it was a big game. To see the game out, it's a good feeling.
"I'm loving it here at Hull. It's a really great place to be around and I'm just really happy in general. I'm looking to develop and I feel like it's going great here. I'm just excited now for the rest of the season."
Wrexham's Moore a Doubt for Wales Play-Offs
Koumas has been a regular selection in Wales squads under Craig Bellamy, earning seven of his nine senior international caps under the former striker.
He is eager to continue learning from Bellamy, who played alongside Koumas' father, Jason Koumas, both for Wales and Cardiff City.
"He's done a lot for me. I really, really love Bellers as a person, and as a coach," Koumas stated. "He's helped me a lot and hopefully he can continue to help me in the future."
