Glenn Whelan Named Livingston Head Coach
Glenn Whelan, a former Republic of Ireland international from Dublin, has been appointed as the new head coach of Livingston Football Club. The 42-year-old will be responsible for guiding the team back to the Scottish Premiership after their recent relegation.
Whelan brings coaching experience from his time at Bristol Rovers and Wigan Athletic, where he also served twice as interim manager.
"His beliefs and values align very well with ours, and we are delighted to give him this opportunity," said Livingston sporting director David Martindale.
"To have played close to 100 games for his country and over 300 games in the Premier League shows that we are bringing in an elite mindset and an individual with a real winning mentality."
Livingston had returned to the Scottish top flight last summer but were relegated after securing only two wins in 38 league matches. Following this, Martindale ended his six-year tenure as manager in January, and Marvin Bartley resigned after the relegation was confirmed.
"I will give my all for the club moving forward," Whelan said. "I'm eager to grasp this opportunity and help build a successful team that the fans can be truly proud of and get right behind. I'm grateful to the board for their belief in me, and the hard work has already begun."
Whelan's playing career includes 91 caps for the Republic of Ireland and over 300 Premier League appearances. He spent a decade at Stoke City and also played for Sheffield Wednesday, Aston Villa, and Hearts.
