Ghana Village Joins in Celebrating Aston Villa's Europa League Victory

As an open-top bus tours Birmingham with Unai Emery's Europa League-winning Aston Villa squad, a minibus carrying passionate Villa supporters will be making its way through a village in Ghana to mark the club's success.

Aston Villa ended a 30-year wait for silverware on Wednesday by defeating Freiburg 3-0 at Istanbul's Besiktas Park in the Europa League final.

The team will be honored with a victory procession on an open-top bus through Birmingham's streets on Thursday upon their return from Turkey.

Meanwhile, over 5,000 kilometers away, a makeshift parade consisting of 30 motorcycles and a minibus will navigate the Ghanaian village of Juaben.

Juaben is home to approximately 1,000 Aston Villa fans and hosts the Ghana Lions supporters' club, led by Owusu Boakye.

"Yesterday was one of our best moments in life and what a time to support Aston Villa,"
Boakye, a lifelong Villa fan, told Africa.
"We have hired 30 motorcycles so we can go around the whole community. We will go there to see how everybody is chanting, how everybody is feeling.
Today we are going to use our minibus like what Aston Villa will be doing today."

Historical Roots of Juaben's Aston Villa Support

Juaben's affinity for Aston Villa traces back to Owusu Boakye's grandfather, Daniel, who stayed with a Villa-supporting family from Birmingham.

"When we were kids he used to tell us stories and history about Aston Villa,"
Boakye explained.
"He used to talk about a certain player called 'God'."

The football 'god' referenced is Paul McGrath, who made over 250 appearances for Aston Villa between 1989 and 1996.

McGrath was a member of the squad that secured the club's previous trophy, the 1996 League Cup.

Since then, a new generation of Villa fans in Juaben have eagerly awaited the club's next historic achievement.

Community Celebrates Historic Victory

The recent goals by Youri Tielemans, Emi Buendia, and Morgan Rogers against Freiburg have brought that moment to fruition.

"It was amazing. What a time to be alive - the whole community coming together to support Aston Villa,"
Boakye said.
"During 1982, when we won our first European Cup, most of the fans here yesterday, we were not born. We were waiting for our own history yesterday."
