Martinez Set to Join Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham Hotspur have reached an agreement to sign Germany international forward Shekiera Martinez from West Ham United. The 24-year-old attacker will officially join Spurs when the summer transfer window opens in June, following an impressive spell in the Women's Super League (WSL).
Martinez has earned four caps for the German national team and has been recognized for her goal-scoring ability and on-field intelligence. West Ham will likely regard her departure as a significant loss, given her contributions during the 2025-26 WSL season, where she scored six goals and received her first call-up to the Germany squad in October.
Player and Manager Comments
"I'm delighted to be a Spurs player. This is the perfect next step for my career and also for me to improve as a player.
"The club has a really good squad and a good idea of how they want to play."
Tottenham manager Martin Ho expressed enthusiasm about the signing, noting that the club had monitored Martinez for an extended period. He described her as a forward with significant presence, intelligent movement, and a strong instinct in the penalty area.
"She is a forward with real presence, intelligent movement and a strong instinct in the box," he said.
"Shekiera has the talent, the ambition and the mentality to become an important player for Spurs."
Career Overview
Martinez began her football career in Germany, joining Eintracht Frankfurt in 2016. During her time there, she made over 100 appearances and competed in the Women's Champions League. In 2024, she transferred to West Ham before spending a loan period at Freiburg.
Upon returning from her loan, Martinez delivered an impressive performance for West Ham, scoring 10 league goals in 12 appearances during the latter half of the 2024-25 season. She made her senior international debut for Germany in the Women's Nations League final against Spain in November and has since accumulated four caps.
