Marco Silva Close to Benfica Appointment
Fulham head coach Marco Silva is reportedly close to finalizing an agreement to become the new manager of Benfica.
Silva's contract with Fulham at Craven Cottage is due to expire this month, but there has been no official announcement regarding his departure. The club has offered the Portuguese manager a contract extension, which he has yet to accept.
Recent reports indicate that discussions between Silva and Benfica have advanced significantly, with an agreement expected soon.
Benfica Seeks Successor to Jose Mourinho
Benfica is in the process of appointing a replacement for Jose Mourinho, who recently left the club to take on a three-year managerial role at Real Madrid.
Mourinho, aged 63, had returned to Benfica for a second tenure in September and led the team to a third-place finish in the Primeira Liga.
Silva's Career and Fulham's Recent Performance
Marco Silva, 48, previously managed Hull City, Watford, and Everton before joining Fulham in July 2021. He successfully guided Fulham back to the Premier League in his first season after the club's relegation to the Championship the previous year.
In the most recent Premier League season, Fulham finished 11th, accumulating 52 points, the same as Chelsea.
