Former West Brom Keeper Tony Godden Passes Away

Tony Godden, a former goalkeeper for West Bromwich Albion, has died at the age of 70. Godden was a teammate of notable players such as Bryan Robson, Cyrille Regis, and Laurie Cunningham during his time at West Brom.

He was a highly regarded figure at The Hawthorns, holding the club record for 228 consecutive appearances. In total, Godden played 329 matches for West Bromwich Albion.

Godden’s tenure at the club spanned nine years, from 1977 to 1986. Following his time with the Baggies, he also played for Chelsea and Birmingham City.

West Bromwich Albion expressed their sorrow over Godden’s death, stating:

A tribute to Godden is scheduled for the upcoming home match against Wrexham on Friday.

Chelsea also released a statement, saying they were "greatly saddened" by Godden’s passing. Godden made 38 appearances for Chelsea during the 1986-87 season.

One of his notable moments at Chelsea was saving two penalties in a 1-0 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford in September 1986.
