England Confirmed for World Cup Knockout Stage
England has secured its place in the knockout stages of the World Cup prior to their final group match against Panama on Saturday. The Three Lions currently hold four points after two matches, guaranteeing them at least one of the eight third-placed qualification spots.
Alongside England, four other teams—Sweden, Ecuador, Bosnia-Herzegovina, and Paraguay—also have four points, with four groups, including England's, yet to conclude their fixtures.
The confirmation of England's advancement came following Uruguay's defeat by Spain on Saturday, which mathematically ensured the Three Lions' progression to the last 32.
Match Performance and Player Updates
England began the tournament with a 4-2 victory over Croatia and followed that with a goalless draw against Ghana on Tuesday.
Manager Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that Reece James will miss the final group game due to injury, while Declan Rice was absent from Thursday's training session.
James, aged 26, sustained a hamstring injury during the draw with Ghana on Tuesday. Rice, who left Boston Stadium with strapping on his left calf after the same match, did not participate in Thursday's training at England's base in Kansas City.
