Cole Palmer Addresses Transfer Speculation
Chelsea midfielder Cole Palmer has firmly denied any intentions of leaving the club amid rumors linking him to Manchester United. The 23-year-old England international, who joined Chelsea from Manchester City in 2023 for £42.5 million, stated he "laughs" at such reports.
Palmer, a boyhood Manchester United fan despite spending 13 years at Manchester City's Etihad Stadium, has made a significant impact at Chelsea. He has scored 53 goals in 124 appearances, including 43 goals in his first 97 matches over his initial two seasons at Stamford Bridge. However, this season he has netted only 10 goals.
Rumors of Homesickness and Transfer Links
Speculation has suggested that Palmer's recent dip in form could be due to homesickness, fueling reports that Manchester United might attempt to bring him to Old Trafford. Palmer, however, dismissed these claims and denied feeling homesick in London.
"Everyone just talks," Palmer told . "When I see it I just laugh. Obviously Manchester is my home. All my family are there, but I don't miss it. Maybe I'll miss it if I don't go for three months or something. But then when I get home I think there's nothing there for me anyway."
Commitment to Chelsea
Palmer reinforced his commitment to Chelsea by signing a contract extension in 2024, which binds him to the club until 2033. He emphasized that he has no plans to move from the Blues and highlighted the club's ongoing objectives.
"I've got no plans to move from Chelsea," Palmer said. "We've still got a lot to play for. We've got the FA Cup semi-final [against Leeds] and if we finish in a Champions League spot it puts us in a good position to sign players that we need."
Chelsea currently sit sixth in the Premier League and will face third-placed Manchester United at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. The Blues aim to finish in the top five to secure Champions League qualification.
Transfer Strategy and Leadership
Palmer noted that securing a Champions League spot would facilitate Chelsea's summer transfer plans. He also mentioned discussions with captain Reece James regarding the need for new signings.
"We spoke to the owners and they're sure of the players that are going to do it," Palmer explained. "Reece won't sign a six-year contract if he's not spoken to the owners and the directors. Me and Reece spoke a lot, about things we need, players we need to sign and how things need to be. He wouldn't sign a new contract if he didn't know what was going on."
