Chelsea Appoint Xabi Alonso as Manager

Chelsea Football Club has appointed former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso as their new manager, signing him to a four-year contract set to commence in July.

The 44-year-old Spaniard became available after departing Real Madrid by mutual consent in January, less than eight months into a three-year agreement.

Alonso previously managed Bayer Leverkusen for three years, guiding the German club to their inaugural Bundesliga title in 2024, as well as securing the German Cup.

The announcement of Alonso's appointment follows Chelsea's recent defeat to Manchester City in the FA Cup final.

The club aims for Alonso to provide stability after a turbulent season that saw two permanent managers, Enzo Maresca and Liam Rosenior, take charge. Meanwhile, Calum McFarlane is currently serving his second spell as interim manager and will continue in this role for Chelsea's final two Premier League matches.
