Bobby Tambling's Career and Legacy
Bobby Tambling, Chelsea's former record goalscorer, has passed away at the age of 84. Tambling scored 202 goals in 370 appearances for Chelsea between 1959 and 1970, a record that stood until Frank Lampard surpassed it in May 2013.
He made an immediate impact by scoring on his debut as a 17-year-old and played a key role in Chelsea's 1965 League Cup victory, scoring against Leicester City in the final. Tambling also scored in the 1967 FA Cup final, although Chelsea were defeated by Tottenham Hotspur. During his career, he earned three caps for England before transferring to Crystal Palace in 1970.
Later Life and Career in Ireland
Following his time in English football, Tambling moved to the Republic of Ireland in 1973, joining Cork Celtic. He settled in Cork and went on to manage several local teams, including Cork Celtic, Cork City, and Crosshaven.
In recent years, Tambling had been living with dementia.

A statement posted on Crosshaven's X account paid tribute to Tambling, describing him as:
"a true Chelsea legend and an even more wonderful human being"
The statement continued:
"His warmth, his wisdom, his humour and his love will stay with us forever."
It also highlighted his connection to Chelsea:
"He loved returning to [Stamford] Bridge, where he was worshipped. Seeing his 'Tambling 202' banner proudly displayed and having a suite named in his honour always filled him with quiet pride."
