Cardiff City's Position in League One

Cardiff City currently hold second place in League One.

Manager's Reaction to Racism Allegation

Brian Barry-Murphy expressed satisfaction with Cardiff City's decisive action to identify a supporter accused of making a racist gesture during their match against Lincoln City.

Following last Saturday's League One game in Cardiff, Lincoln manager Michael Skubala reported "allegations of racist comments" directed at Imps captain Tendayi Darikwa by a Cardiff fan.

After conducting an investigation, Cardiff City released a statement condemning the conduct, describing it as "repugnant behaviour" and expressing their disgust.

The club emphasized its "zero-tolerance approach to racism and all forms of discrimination."

"I was very pleased with the statement that we put out. It was so strong in the word," Barry-Murphy said.

"Rather than just condemn it and say something's going to happen, to see something actually happen is very important from my point of view."

Cardiff confirmed to Wales that an individual has come forward to the club, and the case is now under police investigation.

"My wife is black, my children are mixed race. So it's something that is very much at the front of my mind," added Cardiff head coach Barry-Murphy.

"We have so many black and mixed race players in our academy and in our team and it's not acceptable to see it anywhere in society or in any football stadium.

"And the fact that it's a player from another team doesn't mean that we can accept it or tolerate it. I'm really pleased that the club are going to deal with it in the strongest possible manner and that the player is OK."

Match Outcome and Incident Details

Lincoln City won the match 2-0, moving above Cardiff to claim the top spot in the third-tier league table.

The game was paused for approximately four minutes while referee Tom Reeves consulted with both teams following Rob Street's opening goal.

Previous Incidents and Club's Stance

Speaking ahead of Cardiff's upcoming trip to Exeter City, Barry-Murphy revealed that some Cardiff academy players experienced racial abuse during a recent visit to Barcelona.

"Our supporters are incredible and for this to happen in our stadium I think is not reflective of them, but the person who did this obviously needs educating on the effects this can have on the person that he does it to and also the people who witness it," Barry-Murphy stated.

"So many of our supporters are from different backgrounds - it's one of the beauties of our club.

"Our academy went to Barcelona two weeks ago and suffered racial abuse to our players. (Academy manager) Gavin Chesterfield and the FAW (Football Association of Wales) have been really active in supporting and making sure that the strongest possible sanctions are in place and the strongest possible support is in place for the people, the players and staff.

"I think the process has to be really clear and if it happens to another player in our stadium, our responsibility is to make it clear what we stand for as a club, what support we're going to offer to the player it happened to, and also for our own players and supporters to see what it looks like to be in our club at this time."

The allegation of abuse during the Lincoln game follows an earlier incident a month prior, when the Football Association charged Cardiff over alleged homophobic chants by some fans during their EFL Cup match against Chelsea in December.
