Cardiff Confident on Nathan Trott's Future After Promotion

Cardiff City manager Brian Barry-Murphy is prepared to wait until season's end before deciding goalkeeper Nathan Trott's future. Trott, on loan from Copenhagen, has been integral to Cardiff's promotion to the Championship. Contract talks for other key players remain pending.

Cardiff Relaxed Over Keeper Trott's Future

Nathan Trott joined Cardiff City on a season-long loan from Danish club Copenhagen in August. The 27-year-old goalkeeper has made 41 appearances for the Bluebirds as they secured promotion back to the Championship.

Cardiff City manager Brian Barry-Murphy has indicated he is willing to wait until the end of the season before making any decisions regarding Trott's future. There is an option for a permanent transfer, but reports suggest Cardiff could face competition for the former West Ham United goalkeeper.

Despite Cardiff's early promotion, Barry-Murphy's focus remains on the team's final fixtures. The club's remaining games include a home match against Northampton on Saturday and an away trip to Mansfield the following weekend.

Decisions concerning the futures of out-of-contract players Joel Bagan, Perry Ng, and Ryan Wintle are also on hold until the conclusion of the season.

"I think he's done great over the course of the season and we're very grateful to have him," Barry-Murphy said of Trott, following the goalkeeper's crucial save that helped Cardiff secure a clean sheet and victory over Port Vale on Tuesday night.
"Like with the other players, there's so different moving parts to these things speculation is a waste of time. If something happens, then it happens and if not, it's all good."

Contract Situations and Player Considerations

Cardiff have successfully negotiated new contracts for several players but have yet to confirm whether midfielder Ryan Wintle, defender Perry Ng, or full-back Joel Bagan will remain with the club for the next season. Notably, Bagan was recently named in the EFL League One team of the year.

Asked whether decisions on these players would be made before Saturday's final home game, Barry-Murphy stated: "All those players have had incredible seasons and they'll be under consideration for Saturday. It's been a really busy period and the focus has always been on these remaining games. Once they're finished then all those different situations contractually between players and clubs would be dealt with."

Planning for Championship Return

Securing promotion early allows Cardiff to begin preparations for their return to the Championship after spending two decades away from the second tier. However, Barry-Murphy emphasized that the club will avoid any rash decisions, maintaining a steady approach alongside the recruitment team.

"I think our idea is always to move the club forward really quickly, try and improve the squad, try and improve all aspects of the club and if that remains the theme of what we're trying to do, then it means we'll be fine," he added.

Reflecting on Promotion and Recent Performances

Barry-Murphy expressed pride in the team's achievements, particularly following the dramatic promotion secured at Reading last weekend. He also praised the players for their subsequent home victory, which resulted in Port Vale's relegation.

"There's a great sense of pride in what we've done," he said.
"It's difficult to predict what level of performance we could reach based on the euphoria that we felt on Saturday, so I'm very pleased with the players that we managed to create a chance in the second half and play well enough to win."
