Cardiff City's Compensation Claim Over Emiliano Sala Death Dismissed

Cardiff City's claim seeking over £100 million in compensation following the death of footballer Emiliano Sala has been dismissed.

Sala, aged 28, and pilot David Ibbotson died when the Piper Malibu plane carrying them crashed into the English Channel on the night of 21 January 2019.

The Argentine striker was en route to join Cardiff City, then competing in the Premier League, from FC Nantes for a transfer fee of £15 million.

In the latest development of a protracted dispute, a French court responsible for determining whether the Welsh club was entitled to compensation from Nantes for the loss of Sala dismissed Cardiff's claim on Monday.

Cardiff had sought more than €120 million (£104 million) for loss of income and other damages, based on the assertion that Sala could have helped the club maintain its Premier League status.

The court also ordered Cardiff City to pay approximately £400,000 in legal fees and moral damages to FC Nantes.
