Callum Doyle's Role at Wrexham
Defender Callum Doyle has been an integral part of Wrexham's squad as they pursue a place in the Championship play-offs. The 22-year-old has featured in 36 matches across all competitions this season, including a run of 26 consecutive games. His consistent performances have been acknowledged with selection in the Championship team of the season, an achievement he describes as a "massive honour."
Early Challenges at Wrexham
However, Doyle admits that his start at the Racecourse Ground was not ideal. After joining Wrexham in late summer, by October he had only appeared in eight games for the club. During a home fixture against Oxford United, which Wrexham won 1-0, Doyle received a straight red card in the second half.
"It's one of those moments that it's a bad moment," Doyle said. "But, in the grand scheme of things it's not so bad of how I've changed my attitude towards training. And it's been good for me since that point."
The sending off became a pivotal moment in Doyle's season, serving as a catalyst for improvement.

Manager's Perspective on Doyle's Development
Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson and his coaching staff utilized Doyle's suspension period to work closely with the defender. Parkinson noted that Doyle had missed much of pre-season and needed time to reach full fitness and form.
"He came in and missed a lot of pre-season, so it took us a while to get him up to speed," Parkinson explained. "When he got sent off, it was a chance for us to pull him away and do work with him and almost give him a mini pre-season and get him to where he needed to be. But I think everybody can see what a class player Callum is. He's got a lot of experience for someone so young and the aim is for him now to finish his season strongly."
Details of the Red Card Incident
Doyle's red card was issued for a sliding challenge on Oxford United's Siriki Dembele during the match.
Support and Adaptation
Doyle has expressed gratitude for the support he received from Wrexham's staff and teammates during the challenging early weeks of the season. Having joined the newly promoted Championship side in mid-August, just after the season had started, he initially struggled to settle.
"You know, at the start, I did struggle," Doyle admitted. "At the start it wasn't the best and at the time I was a bit down. But since then I think I've improved a lot and I think everyone can see around the building that my mood's changed."
The former England Under-21 international credits the coaching team's daily efforts for his progress.
"It helps with the staff pushing me every day, working with me, improving me, day in, day out," he said. "I just talk to them, little chats just in training, just to keep me going and confident. And I'm thankful that it's worked out this season. And, you know, it helps that we've got a really good bunch of lads that are helping me along the way as well."
Background and Career Aspirations
Doyle is a product of the Manchester City academy but did not make a senior appearance for the club before his transfer to Wrexham last summer. He has previously experienced promotion during loan spells with Sunderland and Leicester City, and he aims to achieve similar success with Wrexham.
Wrexham's Promotion Ambitions
Currently, Wrexham sit two points shy of the play-off positions with three matches remaining in the season. Their next fixture is an away game against Oxford United on Tuesday.
"Getting promoted is probably one of the best feelings in football," Doyle stated. "The Championship this year, you know, it's tough. Everything's so tight, especially now. We've got to focus on ourselves at the moment - big three games to go. We've just got to keep going, keep doing what we're doing - keep just trying our hardest and putting the effort in. We've got to go for it and I think the fans will help with that, especially the travelling fans."
