Bohemians 1905 Launch Fan Team for Czech Football League
Czech football club Bohemians 1905, based in Prague, is initiating a unique project by recruiting fans to play for a C team that will compete in the country's football league system starting next season.
The club plans to enter this fan-based team into the ninth tier of Czech football. Supporters interested in joining have been invited to express their interest via email.
"The goal of this unique project won't be to advance as high as possible, but to offer Bohemians fans the joy of football and the pride of wearing the kangaroo on their chest,"
the club stated.
Bohemians, also known colloquially as Bohemka, feature a kangaroo emblem on their badge, a symbol that originates from their 1927 tour of Australia. During that tour, the club was gifted two kangaroos, which they brought back home.
The club's honorary president is former Czechoslovakia midfielder Antonin Panenka. Bohemians experienced bankruptcy in 2005 but have maintained a presence in the Czech top flight since 2013, a revival largely supported by fundraising efforts from their fanbase.
"Thanks to the fans, Bohemka continues to play football. Now it's time for Bohemka to enable the same for its fans,"
the club added.
The newly formed C team is unlikely to compete against Bohemians' first team in official matches, as only clubs in the top four divisions of Czech football qualify for the Czech Cup.
Currently, Bohemians are also engaged in a crowdfunding campaign to finance the complete reconstruction of their Dolicek stadium. The renovation is estimated to cost 350 million Czech Koruna (£12.4 million).
