Aston Villa Fined for Second Consecutive Season

Aston Villa have been fined 22.5 million euros (£19.4 million) by UEFA due to a "significant breach" of its squad-cost rule for 2025. Alongside the financial penalty, the club will face restrictions on registering new players for their Champions League squad next season.

A substantial portion of the fine, amounting to 15 million euros (£12.9 million), is suspended, contingent upon the club significantly reducing their squad-cost ratio in 2026. This sanction effectively represents a rollover of a suspended punishment imposed on the club last summer.

In July 2025, Villa were fined 11 million euros (£9.5 million), with an additional 15 million euros (£12.9 million) suspended, conditional on compliance over a three-year period.

Other Premier League Clubs Penalised

Three additional Premier League clubs have also been fined for breaching UEFA's squad-cost regulations. Chelsea received a fine of 3 million euros (£2.6 million), with 1 million euros (£861,000) suspended.

Nottingham Forest must pay 2.5 million euros (£2.2 million), while Newcastle United face a 3 million euros (£2.6 million) fine.

Furthermore, Newcastle United have reached a settlement concerning an overspend related to UEFA's football earnings threshold. As a result, the club must pay an additional fine of 10 million euros (£8.6 million), of which 7 million euros (£6 million) is suspended pending future compliance.
