Managerial Contract Updates

There is no new information regarding managerial contracts ahead of the Arsenal versus Bournemouth Premier League match. Both Andoni Iraola and Mikel Arteta addressed questions about contract discussions during their pre-match press conferences, indicating no ongoing talks with their clubs.

Iraola said, "I’m sorry, I don’t have any news for you. There has been no change on that side of things."
Arteta stated, "We have no time to discuss that now. The full focus is on what we have to do from here until the end of the season. I am fully committed and really happy and I feel good. My family is good and I still have so much ambition to do with this football club, and for now we are in a good place."

Andoni Iraola’s contract with Bournemouth expires at the end of this season, while Mikel Arteta’s three-year deal with Arsenal is due for renewal at the conclusion of the next season.

Arsenal supporters may be experiencing a mix of excitement and anxiety as the season approaches its critical final stages. Each remaining game is significant, with today’s match against Bournemouth and the upcoming fixture against Manchester City appearing particularly pivotal. Securing victories in both matches could be decisive in the title race.

Coinciding with the Grand National horse race today, speculation about Arsenal potentially faltering in their title bid but compensating with a Champions League triumph raises questions about fan reactions. Sympathy from rival supporters is expected to be minimal in such a scenario.

Mikel Arteta and Andoni Iraola: Lifelong Friends and Coaches

Mikel Arteta and Andoni Iraola share a long-standing friendship dating back to their childhood in San Sebastian. They grew up just a few miles apart and played together for the amateur youth team Antiguoko alongside Xabi Alonso. Arteta has praised Iraola as the most technically gifted player in their youth team, describing him as a dream for any manager. Today, Iraola could pose a significant challenge for Arteta’s Arsenal side.

Mikel Arteta: "Embrace the Opportunity"

Arteta emphasized the significance of winning the Premier League this season, noting that Arsenal have waited 22 years for a league title. He expressed confidence in his players’ commitment to achieving this goal.

"Embrace the opportunity, the difficulty. I think the outcome when we reach that is going to be totally different to any other club. You’re there in clubs and you go there as a manager and they won it the year before or two years before; you win it, it’s fine. [It happens] a lot in Europe.
"But this one is a very particular one – in the Premier League because it’s been 22 years and the Champions League has never been done before. So that has to fill you with enthusiasm, energy and there’s the possibility and the probability that it’s very big to do it. So put everything on the table because that’s the moment to do it."

Arsenal recently sent an email to season-ticket holders encouraging them to arrive early for the 12:30pm kick-off, with Arteta urging fans to "have an early breakfast, bring your lunch."

Myles Lewis-Skelly Starts for Arsenal

At 19 years old, Myles Lewis-Skelly makes only his second Premier League start this season, taking the left-back position in place of Riccardo Calafiori. For Bournemouth, Eli Junior Kroupi comes in for Amine Adli, marking the only change in Andoni Iraola’s lineup.

Early Team News

Arteta was reserved regarding fitness updates but confirmed that changes would be made from the team that started against Sporting Lisbon. He confirmed Eberechi Eze is available for selection, praising his determination to recover quickly.

"The will that he’s shown from day one to get back as quick as possible, how he’s pushed the medical staff and himself to be there, it’s just great to watch," Arteta said.

Mikel Merino remains sidelined, and there are doubts over Bukayo Saka, Jurrien Timber, Martin Odegaard, and Piero Hincapie for this match.

"I don’t know," Arteta responded when asked about their availability. "Some of them."

For Bournemouth, Justin Kluivert and Lewis Cook are confirmed out. Iraola reported that Junior Kroupi and Alex Jimenez have fully recovered from minor injuries sustained during international duty and are ready to play.

"He’s doing really well but we cannot do stupid things," Iraola said of Kluivert’s recovery from knee surgery. "We have to give the time that everybody needs."

Premier League: Arsenal v Bournemouth Preview

The match at the Emirates Stadium offers Arsenal an opportunity to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table to 12 points over Manchester City, albeit with two additional games played. The highly anticipated fixture between Arsenal and Manchester City is scheduled for next weekend. Arsenal’s last league match was nearly a month ago, and they arrive following a solid but unspectacular draw in the Champions League quarter-final first leg.

Bournemouth, known for their tendency to draw matches, come into this game having recorded five consecutive draws in the Premier League this season, including their most recent 0-0 result at the Vitality Stadium. Currently 13th in the table, with their manager’s future uncertain, Bournemouth remain in contention for European qualification despite their mid-table position.

Kick-off at the Emirates is set for 12:30pm BST. Further team news and match build-up will be provided ahead of the game.
