Zoe Backstedt Claims Victory in Vuelta a Extremadura Time Trial
Zoe Backstedt, the British time trial champion, secured a commanding win in the opening individual time trial of the Vuelta a Extremadura held in Spain.
The Welsh cyclist outpaced her closest competitor, Brodie Chapman, by 12 seconds, marking her first victory of the 2026 season.
Backstedt completed the rain-soaked 18km course in 24 minutes and 30 seconds, earning both the yellow leader jersey and the white jersey, which is awarded to the best-placed rider under the age of 26.
The event spans three stages across western Spain, including a 132km stage from Pueblonuevo del Guadiana to Fuente del Maestre, followed by a concluding mountain stage on Sunday.
