Sooryavanshi's Explosive Innings Powers Rajasthan Royals
Fifteen-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi delivered a remarkable performance by hitting 12 sixes in a 29-ball innings, leading Rajasthan Royals to a commanding 47-run victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League eliminator held on Wednesday.
Sooryavanshi, the season's orange cap winner with 680 runs, dismantled Hyderabad's bowling attack with an extraordinary 97 runs, helping Rajasthan post a formidable total of 243 for 8 in Chandigarh.
Following this, Jofra Archer provided a swift bowling assault, taking three wickets in three overs, which resulted in Hyderabad being bowled out for 196. This victory secured Rajasthan's advancement to the playoff match against Gujarat Titans.

Record-Breaking Sixes and Dominant Batting
The young left-handed opener surpassed Chris Gayle's 12-year-old IPL record for most sixes in a single season, reaching 65 sixes to date. This feat has sent a clear warning to Gujarat's bowling lineup ahead of their upcoming clash.
The winner of the qualifier on Friday will face the defending champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, in the IPL final scheduled for Sunday in Ahmedabad. Bengaluru secured their final berth by defeating Jos Buttler's Gujarat team by 92 runs on Tuesday in Dharamshala.
Sooryavanshi's Approach and Key Moments
“I think a little, not too much,” Sooryavanshi said after the match. “Try and keep things simple. I try to play with good intent and dominate the bowlers. I want to pressurise the bowler. My focus [today] was on contributing for the team – my focus now is how to win the trophy.”
Sooryavanshi began his innings with a straight six off Pat Cummins in the first over, followed by an aggressive display against the Australian bowler in the next over, hitting three sixes and a four. He continued his assault with three more sixes off Sakib Hussain in the subsequent over, reaching his half-century in just 16 balls.
He appeared on track to break the record for the fastest IPL century, currently held by Gayle with 30 balls, as he struck Praful Hinge for three sixes and two fours. However, Hinge eventually dismissed Sooryavanshi caught at third man for 97, much to the disappointment of the packed stadium.

Supporting Performances and Hyderabad's Response
Yashasvi Jaiswal contributed a steady 29 runs as Sooryavanshi dominated the opening partnership, which amassed 125 runs off 49 deliveries. Dhruv Jurel maintained the momentum with a 20-ball 50, but Hyderabad mounted a fightback in the final five overs, scoring 36 runs to keep their chances alive.
However, Archer's incisive bowling ended Hyderabad's hopes. He dismissed Abhishek Sharma for a duck with a fast bouncer on his second ball. Despite a brief resistance from Ishan Kishan, who scored 33, Archer also claimed his wicket before removing Travis Head for 17, severely damaging Hyderabad's chase.
Leg-spinner Yash Raj Punja trapped Heinrich Klaasen lbw for 18 after an ill-advised reverse sweep, signaling the end of Hyderabad's resistance. Although Nitish Kumar Reddy (38) and Salil Arora (35) delayed defeat, Rajasthan Royals and Sooryavanshi remained dominant.
Accolades and Future Prospects
Sooryavanshi's outstanding performance drew praise from cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar, who was commentating during the match.
“What an innings. What a player,” Gavaskar remarked. “That is an innings to remember, an innings to savour.”
Former England captain Michael Vaughan also advocated for Sooryavanshi's inclusion in India's white-ball squad for their upcoming England tour.
“He is the best T20 opener in the world,” Vaughan wrote on X. “India have to pick him.”
