England won by 125 runs, lead five-match series 2-0

England delivered a record T20 defeat to India in the third match at Trent Bridge, taking a 2-0 lead in the five-match series with two games remaining.

Pace bowlers Jofra Archer and Josh Tongue were outstanding, preventing the world champions — including 15-year-old batting prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi — from mounting a challenge to the target of 202 runs.

Sooryavanshi was dismissed for 13 after being struck by Archer’s 3-29, with India reduced to 52-5 after five overs, effectively ending their chances.

On his home ground, Tongue took 4-28. India were bowled out in just 11.4 overs for 76, marking their second-lowest all-out total in T20 cricket. The 125-run margin is India’s largest defeat in a T20 international.

Phil Salt’s 70 from 44 balls anchored England’s total of 201-7, with Sam Curran providing late acceleration with an unbeaten 41 off 24 deliveries.

On a true pitch with short boundaries, the target appeared competitive before Archer and Tongue ensured India never came close.

England cannot lose the series and will secure the title with a win in the fourth match in Bristol on Thursday.

Archer and Tongue rout India

'India are rocked again' - Archer removes Sooryavanshi

England’s new-ball bowlers delivered thrilling performances, both exceeding 90mph to generate the kind of pace and hostility expected to succeed in Test cricket.

The high-speed, short-pitched bowling exposed vulnerabilities in India’s top order, which collapsed under sustained pressure.

Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan, and Shreyas Iyer were all caught in the deep or square of the wicket. The pivotal moment was the dismissal of Sooryavanshi.

In his second international appearance, the left-hander hit Archer’s second ball for six over third man, silencing the crowd each time he faced.

He then clipped a delivery from Tongue over mid-wicket for another six.

However, England had a strategy to challenge him with short balls. In Archer’s next over, a 90mph bouncer induced Sooryavanshi to glove a catch to wicketkeeper Jos Buttler.

Before the powerplay ended, Archer also dismissed Tilak Varma caught behind, marking the first time India lost five wickets in the powerplay of a men’s T20 international.

The remainder of the innings was a procession. Adil Rashid took two wickets, spinner Will Jacks claimed one, and Tongue returned to record his best T20 figures in only his second international match.

A humorous moment occurred when Arshdeep Singh lofted a ball from Tongue that appeared an easy catch but was dropped due to confusion between Curran and Buttler.

This was the sole error England made all evening. India were dismissed in 70 deliveries, their shortest all-out innings in T20 cricket.
