Women's T20 Blast Round-Up
Maia Bouchier scored 77 runs off 45 balls against Lancashire, marking her seventh half-century in nine innings, as Hampshire Hawks secured a comfortable victory over Lancashire Thunder. This win propelled Hampshire back to the top of the Vitality Women's Blast standings.
Meanwhile, previous leaders Surrey were unexpectedly defeated by Essex, who were powered by Anneke Bosch's highest T20 score of 84 not out in a nine-wicket triumph.
Durham climbed above Surrey into second place following a five-wicket win against fourth-placed The Blaze. Mady Villiers delivered an impressive bowling performance with figures of 4-14, while captain Hollie Armitage contributed a vital 69 runs.
Yorkshire, who have struggled this season, recorded consecutive wins by defeating Warwickshire by five wickets, effectively ending Warwickshire Bears' slim hopes of qualifying for Finals Day on 17 July.
Hampshire Hawks Dominate at Utilita Bowl
At the Utilita Bowl, Maia Bouchier's unbeaten 77 from 45 balls showcased her excellent form, especially notable since she was omitted from England's T20 World Cup squad. Lancashire Lightning were restricted to 44-3 at the halfway point. Emma Lamb top-scored with 30 runs, while captain Ellie Threlkald contributed 25 runs off 17 balls. However, three wickets in the final over, including a run out, led to Lancashire being bowled out for 131.
Nancy Harman concluded the innings with figures of 3-9 in nine balls, following Poppy Tulloch's second no-ball which resulted in her removal from the attack.
Bouchier's innings included nine fours and three sixes. Captain Georgia Adams supported her with 37 runs off 25 balls, securing the victory for Hampshire.
Essex Upset Surrey at Chelmsford
At Chelmsford, Surrey posted a strong total of 184-4 in their 20 overs. Captain Bryony Smith scored 53 runs off 43 balls at the top of the order and shared an 82-run partnership for the third wicket with Jemina Spence, who remained unbeaten on 69 from 41 deliveries.
Essex responded strongly, with openers Anneke Bosch and Grace Scrivens putting on a 96-run partnership before Scrivens was run out for 47 in the 10th over. Bosch, a former South Africa Test player, struck 13 fours and a six in her unbeaten 84 from 54 balls, supported by Jodi Grewcock's 47 off 32 balls. Essex reached their target with five balls remaining.
Durham Strengthen Finals Day Hopes
At Chester-le-Street, Mady Villiers' career-best T20 bowling figures helped Durham restrict The Blaze to 147-9, with Marie Kelly top-scoring with 37 runs. Captain Hollie Armitage batted through the innings, scoring 69 to guide Durham to a five-wicket victory sealed with four balls to spare.
This win enhances Durham's prospects of qualifying for Finals Day at The Oval, while The Blaze missed an opportunity to distance themselves from fifth-placed Somerset.
Yorkshire End Warwickshire's Finals Day Hopes
Warwickshire Bears were eliminated from contention after their defeat by Yorkshire, who recorded their second win in three days after failing to win earlier in the competition.
Chasing 162, Yorkshire were 14-2 early on, but Jess Jonassen's 65 and Lauren Winfield-Hill's 42 turned the match in their favor. Warwickshire had set a competitive target, thanks to Abigail Freeborn's 65 from 49 balls and Georgia Redmayne's unbeaten 52 from 36 balls.
