Welsh Record Holder's Equipment Damaged Before Commonwealth Games
Freya Jones, the Welsh javelin record holder, has suffered a significant setback just four months ahead of the Commonwealth Games after her javelins were broken during transit.
The 32-year-old athlete, currently ranked 35th in Europe, was en route to Australia when a luggage buggy ran over her equipment at Brunei airport. This incident resulted in the breakage of four of her javelins.
Jones is now navigating the insurance claim process, but given that each javelin costs between £700 and £1,200, she is seeking additional support to replace the damaged equipment.
"I'm not going to sugarcoat it - I cried,"Jones expressed.
"If you're a javelin thrower you'll understand how personal your implements are. They're not just equipment, they're imprinted to you in a way. I've had one of these for years and it makes me so sad I'll never throw it again."

Impact on Commonwealth Games and Future Ambitions
Jones, who holds the Welsh record and is aiming for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, was the British champion in 2020. Last year, she secured a runner-up position at the UK Championships for the fourth time, achieving a new personal best throw of 56.53 metres.
The damage to her javelins has come at a critical time as she prepares for the women's javelin final at Scotstoun Stadium on Saturday, 1 August, as part of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
"With my entire focus on making the team for the Commonwealth Games, this couldn't have come at a more devastating moment,"Jones said.
"To have all of my javelins damaged at this point in the season is incredibly tough. They're not only expensive, but they're such a personal part of what we do as throwers."
