O'Connor Secures Bronze at World Indoor Athletics Championships
Kate O'Connor of Ireland earned a bronze medal in the pentathlon at the World Indoor Athletics Championships held in Poland. Building on her silver medal performance from the previous year, O'Connor achieved a national record points total of 4839 in this year's competition.
Sofie Dokter from the Netherlands won the gold medal with 4888 points, while Anna Hall of the United States took silver with 4860 points.
Performance Breakdown
The 25-year-old athlete began the pentathlon by finishing fourth overall in the 60m hurdles, recording a time of 8.23 seconds and placing fifth in her heat.
O'Connor, who also secured a silver medal at the World Championships in Tokyo in 2025, cleared 1.81 meters in the high jump after two unsuccessful attempts, tying for third place overall at that stage. She then achieved a personal best in the shot put with a distance of 14.70 meters.
After three events, O'Connor accumulated 2909 points, trailing Sofie Dokter who led with 2943 points and Anna Hall who was second with 2926 points.
In the long jump, Dokter extended her lead, while O'Connor's leap of 6.38 meters elevated her to second place overall with a total of 3878 points.
During the final event, the 800 meters, O'Connor finished second and recorded a personal best time. However, she placed third overall in the event after Hall won with an impressive time of 2:06.32, allowing Hall to surpass O'Connor and secure the silver medal.
