Keith Breaks McColgan's European 10km Record

Megan Keith established a new women's European 10km record in Castellon, improving the previous best by one second, which was held by her Scottish compatriot Eilish McColgan.

The 23-year-old completed the Spanish road race in 30 minutes and seven seconds, finishing in fourth place.

McColgan, aged 35, finished sixth with a time of 30:35 as she continues her preparations for the London Marathon.

Caroline Gitonga of Kenya won the race with a time of 29:34, followed by fellow Kenyan Nelvin Jepkemboi, while Chaltu Dida from Ethiopia secured third place.

Earlier in January, McColgan had reclaimed the European 10km record in Valencia, just seven days after it was broken.

McColgan initially set the record with a time of 30:19 in Manchester in 2022, holding it for over three years until Belgian runner Van Lent lowered it to 30:10 in Nice on 4 January.

Keith had missed four months of running due to an ankle injury sustained at the Paris Olympics in 2024.

She finished 10th in the 10,000m at the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo and was runner-up at the European Cross Country Championships held in Portugal in December.
