Savannah Guthrie to Return to Today Show Following Mother's Disappearance
After nearly two months away due to the apparent abduction of her 84-year-old mother, Savannah Guthrie announced she will return to NBC's Today show next month. In an interview aired on Friday, Guthrie expressed her resolve, stating:
"Joy will be my protest."
Hoda Kotb, during an emotional conversation with her former co-host, revealed that Guthrie is scheduled to return on April 6. Guthrie acknowledged the difficulty of returning to a setting characterized by joy and lightness amid her family's ongoing ordeal. She expressed uncertainty about whether she can fully reintegrate or feel a sense of belonging but emphasized her intention to try.
"I can’t come back and try to be something that I’m not. But I can’t not come back, because it’s my family," Guthrie said. "I think it’s part of my purpose right now. I want to smile and when I do, it will be real and my joy will be my protest."
Details Surrounding Nancy Guthrie's Disappearance
Nancy Guthrie was reported missing on February 1. Authorities suspect she was kidnapped or taken against her will. The FBI released surveillance footage showing a man outside Nancy Guthrie’s residence in Tucson on the night she disappeared. The Guthrie family has offered a $1 million reward for information leading to her recovery.
Family's Perspective and Investigation Insights
In another segment of the interview aired Thursday, Savannah Guthrie shared insights into her family's understanding of the situation. She and her siblings recognized early on that their mother’s disappearance was not a case of wandering off, considering the circumstances surrounding her pain and the condition of her home. Doors were found propped open, blood was discovered on the front doorstep, and a security camera had been forcibly removed.
"We knew something was very wrong," Guthrie said. "My brother knew immediately that our mother had been kidnapped."
Guthrie also addressed the existence of purported sightings, noting that while some were false, she believed two that she and her siblings considered credible.
Appeal for Information
In the portion of the interview aired on Friday, Guthrie made a heartfelt appeal for assistance, emphasizing the family's need for answers and the role the public can play.
"How can someone vanish without a trace? How? Someone knows something... We can’t be in peace. We can’t go forward. We have to know what happened to her."
