Man Sentenced for Theft of Unreleased Beyoncé Music
A man who unlawfully entered a vehicle and stole hard drives containing unreleased music by Beyoncé has been sentenced to two years in prison.
Kelvin Evans, 41, admitted guilt last year in Atlanta, Georgia, to charges including entering an automobile and criminal trespass. In addition to the prison sentence, a judge imposed three years of probation.
Details of the Incident
On 8 July 2025, Evans broke into a Jeep Wagoneer rented by a choreographer and dancer associated with Beyoncé. This occurred as the singer's Cowboy Carter tour was arriving in Atlanta. The break-in appeared to be random.
Upon returning, the two individuals discovered the vehicle's rear window had been shattered and their luggage was missing. Investigators have not yet recovered the hard drives or other stolen property.
Court Proceedings and Evidence
Evans reached a plea agreement on Tuesday before his trial was scheduled to begin later in the week, according to the Fulton County District Attorney's office, which confirmed the details to the BBC.
During the hearing, Evans's attorney addressed the judge, stating:
"hoping for a future where he can make money legitimately and be part of society like the rest of us"
Jury selection for the case commenced on Monday. Prosecutors presented surveillance footage showing a red Hyundai, driven by Evans, pulling alongside the rental vehicle in a parking garage.
Additional surveillance footage depicted the same red Hyundai arriving at an apartment complex, where Evans was seen handling suitcases believed to belong to Beyoncé's choreographer Christopher Grant and dancer Diandre Blue.
Items Stolen and Investigation Findings
Grant and Blue reported to police that the stolen items included two MacBook laptops, Apple headphones, luxury clothing and accessories, and hard drives containing unreleased Beyoncé material.
Grant also informed authorities that he was carrying "personal sensitive information" belonging to Beyoncé.
Prosecutors indicated that the stolen laptops were equipped with tracking technology that placed the devices at the apartment address shown in the surveillance footage.
Sentencing and Restrictions
As part of his sentencing, Evans has been ordered to maintain distance from the victims and to avoid the parking garage where the theft occurred.
Evans has been in custody since his arrest in August of the previous year.
Context of the Crime
The break-in took place shortly before Beyoncé commenced the four-night segment of her Cowboy Carter tour at Atlanta's Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
