Memorial Vigil Marks First Anniversary of Virginia Giuffre's Death
Family, friends, and supporters of Virginia Giuffre gathered in Washington DC for an emotional memorial vigil commemorating the first anniversary of her passing.
With the White House visible in the background, her brother Sky Roberts addressed the attendees, reflecting on how his sister, a prominent accuser of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, had transformed her suffering into a mission of purpose.
The vigil took place shortly before the arrival of the King and Queen in Washington DC for a state visit.
Calls for the King to Meet Epstein Survivors
Giuffre's attorney, Sigrid McCawley, reiterated appeals for the King to meet with survivors of Epstein’s abuse, describing the absence of such a meeting as a "missed opportunity".
"I appreciate the concerns about the King not wanting to jeopardise any legal proceedings by holding a meeting, but I think survivors would have understood if he listened without having to say anything,"McCawley stated.

More than 100 people assembled near the Washington Monument, including Sydney Beasly, originally from Kentucky, who also expressed the view that the royal visitors should have engaged with Epstein survivors during their US visit.
"If the monarchy wants to be relevant in the future, they have to meet all types of people, including survivors, so they can make informed decisions. It's about increasing awareness,"Beasly said.
Family Pleads for Recognition from the King
In an interview with the BBC's Newsnight program the previous week, Sky Roberts urged the King of England to demonstrate solidarity with survivors.
"We need the King of England to stand up and show his unity with survivors... And all we ask is for a 10-minute meeting with the King to show him that we're real people, with real feelings,"Roberts said.
However, it is not anticipated that any meeting with survivors will occur during the state visit, due to concerns about potentially interfering with ongoing legal proceedings.
Queen Camilla is scheduled to meet representatives from campaigns against violence toward women during engagements held as part of the visit.
Vigil Features Speeches, Music, and Campaign Messages
The memorial event combined speeches, musical performances, and campaign activities, with participants holding posters bearing messages such as "Survivors are powerful". The vigil took place a year after Giuffre tragically took her own life.
Giuffre had authored a memoir detailing her abuse by Epstein and was a key accuser of the then Prince Andrew in a legal case that concluded with a financial settlement. Prince Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has consistently denied any wrongdoing.

Political Support and Calls for Justice
Congressman Jamie Raskin praised Giuffre for inspiring other survivors of Epstein's "nightmarish trafficking operation".
"The process of holding people to account has become an irreversible reckoning,"Raskin said.
The Democratic lawmaker attributed the ongoing challenges to an "unequal and morally impoverished society, a legal and criminal justice system contaminated by corruption and privilege and our political system infected with complacency."
Epstein survivor Wendy Pesante addressed the gathering, emphasizing the importance of solidarity and advocacy.
"Today serves as both a memorial and a reminder of the importance of us continuing to come together and speak out,"Pesante said.
