FBI Analyzing Glove Found Near Nancy Guthrie's Home

Investigators have discovered DNA on a glove that appears to correspond with one worn by a suspect captured on doorbell camera footage the night Nancy Guthrie vanished.

The FBI announced on Sunday that the glove was recovered from a field near the roadside approximately two miles from Guthrie's residence in Tucson, Arizona.

The agency reported receiving preliminary DNA test results from the glove but is awaiting "quality control and official confirmation" before entering an "unknown male profile" into its database.

Background on Nancy Guthrie's Disappearance

Nancy Guthrie, aged 84 and mother of US television news anchor Savannah Guthrie, has been missing for two weeks. Authorities suspect she was abducted against her will.

On Sunday, the FBI stated it had collected about 16 gloves from various locations near Guthrie's home; however, most were discarded by searchers.

"The one with the DNA profile recovered is different and appears to match the gloves of the subject in the surveillance video,"
the FBI said.

Details from Surveillance Footage

Earlier this week, investigators released footage from a doorbell camera at Guthrie's front door showing a masked man wearing gloves and carrying a backpack.

In the video, the suspect approaches the camera, attempts to cover it with his gloved hand, and then grabs brush from the front yard to obstruct the camera's view.

Following forensic analysis of the footage, the FBI estimated the man’s height to be between 5 feet 9 inches and 5 feet 10 inches (175-177 cm) with an average build.

The FBI also identified the backpack worn by the suspect as a 25-litre Ozark Trail Hiker Pack.

Investigation Progress and Suspect Description

Authorities believe the individual in the video kidnapped Guthrie in the early hours of February 1.

The Pima County Sheriff's Department emphasized that the suspect description "remains a key focus" but noted that "investigators are not ruling out any individuals or possibilities."

Family Appeal for Nancy Guthrie's Return

Later on Sunday, Savannah Guthrie made a direct appeal for her mother’s safe return.

"It's been two weeks since our mom was taken,"
she stated in a video posted on Instagram, adding,
"We still have hope, and we still believe."

She continued,

"And I wanted to say to whoever has her or knows where she is, that it's never too late, and you're not lost or alone."

Speaking slowly and with pauses, she added,

"It is never too late to do the right thing."

Timeline and Search Efforts

Guthrie was last seen on January 31 when a family member dropped her off at her home after a gathering at her daughter Annie's house.

Members of her church noticed her absence the following day and alerted her family.

In the two weeks since her disappearance, the FBI and Pima County Sheriff's Office have conducted extensive search operations involving helicopters, sniffer dogs, and hundreds of officers, while processing thousands of tips from the public.

Officials have cautioned that Guthrie may be in critical health condition without her medication. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos stated that Guthrie was "not in good physical health" but had no known cognitive impairments.

Recent Developments and DNA Evidence

On Friday, authorities executed a search warrant at a residence two miles from Guthrie's home but made no arrests.

Local officials also revealed that DNA found at Guthrie's residence did not belong to her or anyone close to her.

The FBI has increased the reward for information regarding Guthrie's disappearance from $50,000 (£36,700) to $100,000.
