Tragic Shooting Claims Eight Children in Shreveport
Eight children, ranging in age from one to 14 years old, were fatally shot in Shreveport, Louisiana, in what police have described as a "domestic disturbance."
Authorities reported that the shootings took place around 05:00 local time (10:00 BST), when a single gunman opened fire, injuring ten people. The suspect was pursued by police and was shot dead while attempting to flee the scene.
"We have hurting families, we have hurting police officers, coroners' personnel," said Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux. "This affects the entire community, so we all mourn with these families."
The police have not disclosed the identities of the gunman or the victims but confirmed that some of the children were related to the deceased shooter.
"This is a tragic situation - maybe the worst tragic situation we've ever had in Shreveport," the mayor added, requesting prayers for the affected families and the city.
Multiple Locations Targeted
The shooting occurred at several locations within the city, including two homes situated on the same block and a third residence located elsewhere in the neighborhood, according to police statements.
Shreveport Police Corporal Chris Bordelon stated that officers arrived at a home shortly before 06:00 local time and discovered the deceased children.
"All of the deceased in this case are juveniles," Bordelon confirmed.
Investigations revealed the incident was domestic in nature. One of the individuals shot at the initial home fled to a nearby residence.
Following the shootings, the suspect carjacked a vehicle and attempted to escape. Police pursued him into another neighborhood, where officers fired upon the suspect, who is now deceased.
