Britney Spears Enters Rehabilitation After DUI Arrest

Britney Spears has voluntarily entered a rehabilitation facility, approximately one month after her arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

Her representative confirmed to multiple US media outlets on Sunday that the singer chose to check herself into treatment.

The arrest occurred on 4 March, and in response, Spears' representative described the incident as "completely inexcusable" and stated that her loved ones would "come up with an overdue needed plan to set her up for success for well being."

This decision to enter treatment precedes Spears' scheduled court appearance in California, where she is due to face the DUI charge in three weeks. Spears, aged 44, was reported last month for driving her BMW "erratically at a high rate of speed" on a motorway, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Following the traffic stop, Spears "showed signs of impairment" and underwent a series of field sobriety tests.

Her representative further commented to the BBC:

"Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney's life.
Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time.
Her boys are going to be spending time with her. Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue needed plan to set her up for success for well being."

Career and Conservatorship Background

Britney Spears is recognized as one of the most successful pop artists in history, with notable hits including "Baby One More Time," "Toxic," "Everytime," "Gimme More," "Womanizer," and "Stronger."

From 2008 until 2021, Spears was under a conservatorship—a legal arrangement in which her father controlled her finances and personal affairs.

Her father has stated that the conservatorship was necessary due to Spears' life being "in shambles and she was in physical, emotional, mental and financial distress."

He added:

"Through the conservatorship, Britney has been able to return to a path towards stability in all of these phases of her life. The mission has been successful and it is now time for Britney to re-take control of her life."
