Blue Origin Rocket Explosion During Test in Florida

A rocket manufactured by Blue Origin reportedly exploded on its launchpad in Florida while undergoing a test.

Video footage captured the rocket erupting into a large fireball, engulfing the surrounding area.

In a social media statement, Blue Origin confirmed it had "experienced an anomaly" during a hotfire test. The company also stated that all personnel have been accounted for.

Blue Origin, a space technology company, was established in 2000 by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.

The explosion occurred at approximately 21:00 local time (02:00 +1 GMT) at Cape Canaveral. Brevard County Emergency Management confirmed there is no threat to the public.

The BBC has reached out to the US Space Force and NASA for further comment.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a statement acknowledging awareness of the incident.

"This test was not within the scope of FAA licensed activities," the FAA said, adding that there was no impact to air traffic.

In a recent development, Blue Origin's newest rocket was grounded last month following an FAA-ordered investigation into a "mishap" related to a failed satellite launch.

The company attempted to deploy a satellite from AST SpaceMobile using its New Glenn rocket but was unable to achieve the intended orbital altitude.

Previously, Blue Origin successfully launched a New Glenn rocket from Florida in November, marking the first time it landed its reusable booster.
