Collision at LaGuardia Airport Leads to Closure

New York's LaGuardia Airport has been closed indefinitely following a collision between an Air Canada Express aircraft and a ground vehicle.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) implemented a ground stop late Sunday night and indicated there was a

"high" likelihood the order would be extended.

Details of the Incident

According to CBS News, the BBC's US partner, the aircraft was arriving from Montreal and had landed when it slowed to approximately 24 mph. At that time, it collided with a vehicle operated by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the agency responsible for managing the airport.

The aircraft involved was a smaller CRJ 900 model, carrying an estimated 70 to 90 passengers. The collision caused significant damage to the plane.

At present, there have been no reported injuries related to the incident.
