Fire Destroys Hairdressing Salon in Omagh
Residents were awakened by the sound of their smoke alarms in the early hours of Sunday due to a fire that destroyed a hairdressing salon on Market Street, Omagh, County Tyrone.
Several people evacuated their homes as the fire spread to neighbouring flats. Five occupants escaped safely, but one woman had to be rescued and was taken to hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.
Owner Reacts to Devastating Loss
The owner of the salon expressed deep sorrow over the incident, stating:
"In a matter of moments, everything we had worked so hard to build was gone."
"Our salon, our tools, our products, and so many memories that meant the world to us."
In a Facebook statement, the owner of Couture Hair described being "heartbroken" and "trying to come to terms with what has happened." They also thanked their "wonderful clients, friends and families" for the "all the love, messages and support," while acknowledging uncertainty about the future, saying they "don't know exactly what comes next."
Emergency Response and Investigation
The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) received the report of the fire at 03:24 BST and dispatched units from Omagh, Dromore, Clogher, and Londonderry. The fire was extinguished by 06:29.
The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) attended the scene to assist with evacuations. Authorities have stated that the fire is not currently being treated as suspicious.
