Convictions in Fatal Acid Attack Case

Three men involved in events connected to a fatal acid attack have been sentenced to prison.

Drug dealer Danny Cahalane, aged 38, was assaulted at his residence in Plymouth, Devon, on 21 February 2025 and succumbed to his injuries in hospital several weeks later.

Isanah Sungum, 22, from Edmonton, London, was convicted by a jury at Winchester Crown Court of participating in an organised crime group and received a prison sentence of two years and two months.

Jean Mukuna, 24, and Arrone Mukuna, 25, both from Camden, London, were each sentenced to 16 months after being found guilty of attempting to kidnap Cahalane approximately four weeks prior to the acid attack. Additionally, Jean Mukuna was sentenced to three years consecutively for possession of cocaine with intent to supply.

Sungum was responsible for sourcing and driving a stolen Renault from London to Plymouth alongside co-defendant Israel Augustus, 26, from Tottenham, London, prior to the acid attack, as presented in court.

Augustus played a direct role in the fatal assault and was convicted of murder. Sungum returned to London after arriving in Plymouth.

Jean and Arrone Mukuna were involved in a failed kidnapping attempt on 19 January, targeting Cahalane under orders from an overseas drug lord, Ryan Kennedy, known as Frost.

The court heard that Cahalane owed Kennedy a debt of £120,000.

During the four-month trial, jurors learned that the Mukuna brothers travelled from London to Oreston in Plymouth and waited in a car at The Quay, instructed to confront Cahalane after he had dropped off his daughter to his ex-wife, Paris Wilson.

When Cahalane returned to his vehicle, the brothers and a third man emerged to corner him.

Following the unsuccessful kidnapping plot, the gang escalated their methods, culminating in the fatal acid attack on Cahalane.

Wilson, 35, from Plymouth, and co-defendant Ramarnee Bakas, 23, of Islington, London, were found guilty of manslaughter by the jury.

The jury also found Abdulrasheed Adedoja, 23, from Neasden, London, and Augustus guilty of murder. Sentencing for these defendants is scheduled for 11 June.

The court was informed that Wilson played a key role in the attack by providing information about Cahalane's movements to Kennedy.

The jury accepted the prosecution case that Wilson knew "exactly what was coming" and was prepared to let it happen.

Jude Hill, 44, from Plymouth, who was acquitted of murder and the alternative charge of manslaughter, was sentenced to two years and eight months after pleading guilty to supplying cannabis.

Hill, who was described in court as having "multiple connections" with Kennedy, was Cahalane's sister-in-law through her sister, Louise Hill, the mother of Cahalane's son.

Hill was in Thailand when the fatal acid assault occurred and informed police that she was unaware of the attack and was "devastated" by Cahalane's death.

During the trial, the jury reviewed messages indicating her attempts to organise cannabis trafficking into the UK using a disabled courier.
