Teen Denies Attempted Murder of Teacher
A 16-year-old boy has denied charges of attempted murder following an incident at a school in Pembrokeshire.
Incident Details
The teenager, accused of stabbing a teacher at Milford Haven Comprehensive School, stated in court that he brought a knife to school as part of a game to show off household items to his friends.
Emergency services responded to the incident on 5 February.
Vicki Williams, a teacher at the school, previously testified that the boy followed her into a classroom requesting assistance with his history work before he "lunged" at her with a knife, stabbing her in the head.
Charges and Court Proceedings
The 16-year-old, who cannot be named due to legal restrictions, denies attempted murder, wounding with intent, and unlawful wounding but has admitted to possessing a knife.
Defendant's Statement
Wearing a light blue shirt and navy trousers, the boy told the jury that he and his friends had been bringing "random household objects" into school to test what they could "get away with".
"The most impressive one to show his friends,"
he said when asked why he selected the largest knife from the knife block at his home.
When questioned by his defence barrister about whether he intended for teachers to discover the knife, he replied "no."
He was also asked if he intended to use the knife violently or to deliberately injure Ms Williams, to which he answered "no."
Relationship with the Teacher
Swansea Crown Court heard that the boy had chosen to study history and denied any bad feelings or conflicts with Ms Williams.
"He viewed Ms Williams as a 'good' teacher,"
the court was told.
The teenager was 15 years old at the time of the incident.
