Resurfacing Work Scheduled on A82 in Fort William

Bear Scotland has announced that resurfacing work on three sections of the A82 in Fort William is planned to take six weeks to complete. The maintenance project will be conducted in three phases, commencing on 10 May, with road crews working overnight from 19:00 to 06:00.

The company specified that no work will take place on Friday or Saturday nights, nor during the period from 18 to 21 May.

Project Details and Phases

Steve Taylor, north west design manager at Bear Scotland, emphasized the necessity of the resurfacing, describing it as a "significant upgrade" to the road infrastructure.

"The resurfacing was essential and would provide a 'significant upgrade' to the road."

The initial phase will cover the stretch between Nevis Bank roundabout and Belford Hospital. Subsequent phases will focus on North Road near the town's retail park, followed by the West End roundabout.

Impact on Residents and Traffic

Frazer Coupland, chief executive of the West Chamber of Commerce, advised that residents and visitors should anticipate delays during the work period.

"If you are trying to start shifts or at the end of a shift, or going to a doctor appointment, it's a massive inconvenience."

The A82 serves as a vital route connecting the Highlands with central Scotland.

Additional Improvements and Acknowledgments

Taylor also noted that new road markings will be installed as part of the improvement works.

"We would like to thank road users, residents and local businesses for their patience while these important improvements are carried out."
