ScotRail has suspended all trains running through the low-level platforms at Glasgow Central due to a signalling fault. Services connecting Dunbartonshire to Lanarkshire via Glasgow are affected, while trains using the high-level platforms at Glasgow Central have not been disrupted.
Which services are affected?
The disruption affects services running from Dalmuir through to Whifflet or Motherwell, and from Milngavie or Dalmuir to Motherwell or Cumbernauld. The signalling fault has occurred between Rutherglen and Anderston on the line.
Among the stations affected is Exhibition Centre, which will be one of the main stations in use for the Commonwealth Games, as it serves the OVO Hydro and SEC Campus that will host a number of sports. Although the games have not yet begun, athletes and team members from several competing nations can already be seen wandering about the area.
What has ScotRail said?
In a statement on social media, ScotRail wrote:
We're unable to run any trains via Glasgow Central Low Level and all trains out on this line will be recovered back to depots where possible.
Services via Glasgow Central High Level and Queen Street Low Level are not affected at this time.
The rail operator added that Network Rail staff are currently at Anderston looking into the problem.
What is Network Rail doing?
Network Rail said it was continuing to work to identify the cause of the fault with its signalling and power distribution teams.
Are there any travel alternatives?
Bus operator Whitelaws will accept train tickets on buses that run between Motherwell and Larkhall via Hamilton.
