Romance Fraudster Sentenced for Lavish Lifestyle Scam

Gemma Kingsley, a 50-year-old model from Beadnell, Northumberland, has been sentenced to seven years and seven months in prison at Swindon Crown Court for defrauding men out of tens of thousands of pounds to support her extravagant lifestyle.

Over a period of four years, Kingsley constructed "a web of lies," deceiving men into romantic relationships by falsely claiming she was about to inherit a substantial fortune. She used these fabricated stories to persuade her victims to spend large sums of money on her behalf.

Judge's Remarks on the Case

During sentencing, Judge Jason Taylor KC remarked on Kingsley's conduct:

"Blinded by your greed you persistently and manipulatively pulled whatever lever you thought necessary to fund your extravagant lifestyle."

The court was informed that two of Kingsley's victims were recently divorced and emotionally vulnerable when they encountered her. Kingsley falsely asserted she was due to inherit approximately £80 million from her late grandfather.

Victim Impact Statement

One victim provided a statement read in court, expressing the emotional toll of the fraud:

"I fear my daughter no longer looks up to me as she once did and that I am an untrustworthy and flawed parent.
"I am still struggling to come to terms with what Gemma did to me.
"I am suffering from crippling anxiety. I am trying to rebuild my life but I feel used and manipulated. I feel violated and betrayed."

Additional Fraudulent Activities

Besides persuading men to spend significant amounts on her, Kingsley also engaged in theft and fraud by using stolen or false bank card details to cover thousands of pounds in expenses, including hotel stays at a five-star Alpine resort in France.

Charges and Guilty Pleas

At an earlier hearing, Kingsley pleaded guilty to multiple offenses: six counts of theft, four counts of fraud by false representation, two counts of using a false instrument with intent for it to be accepted as genuine, and one count of possession of an article intended for use in fraud.

Judge Taylor further commented on her behavior:

"You are a con woman who traded on her good looks to ensnare your victims.
Your greed was insatiable. Your duplicity and brass neck is staggering. You were a well spoken, educated and glamorous serial fraudster."

Kingsley is required to serve half of her sentence in prison before being eligible for release on licence.
