Police Appeal Following Attack in Springburn Park

Police have launched an appeal after a 16-year-old girl was attacked in Springburn Park, Glasgow.

Detectives have provided a description of a man suspected of raping the teenager near the Moongate area of the park. The incident occurred between 20:30 and 21:15 on Friday.

The victim was pushed into bushes and assaulted while walking in the park.

Suspect Description and Investigation

The suspect is described as a man in his 30s, possibly of European descent, with a tanned complexion and an average height and build. He was reportedly wearing a black baseball cap, a black lightweight jacket, and black trousers at the time of the attack.

Police Scotland stated that the man fled the scene following the assault and that "extensive" inquiries are ongoing to locate him.

Official Statements

Detective Inspector Sharon McPeake characterized the event as an "extremely shocking attack" and confirmed that the girl is receiving support from specialist officers.

"We understand this is a concerning incident for the local community," said Chief Inspector Mhairi Crawford, Glasgow local area commander.

Det Insp McPeake added that police are working to determine the direction in which the suspect ran after the attack.

"Anyone with private CCTV or dash cam footage from the area at the time of the incident is urged to come forward and share it with officers," Det Insp McPeake said.

Community Safety Measures

Ch Insp Mhairi Crawford announced that there will be an increased police presence in the area for a period.

"Officers will be carrying out dedicated pro-active patrols and will look to engage with park visitors, local groups and residents. Anyone with concerns is encouraged to speak to these officers," she said.
