Background of the Hypnosis Claim
Zack Polanski, leader of the Green Party of England and Wales, has faced scrutiny over his claim that hypnosis could increase a woman's breast size. Prior to his political career, Polanski worked as a hypnotherapist and in 2013 offered a hypnosis session to a newspaper reporter aiming to enlarge her bust.
Since entering politics, Polanski has stated he was misrepresented by the media and has maintained that he never believed the claim was true. He has also asserted that he apologized to the BBC the day after the article was published.
Investigation into the Apology Claim
conducted a search for evidence of the alleged apology interview but found no record of such an appearance. However, six days after the article's publication, Polanski spoke to BBC Radio Humberside, where he defended the theory that hypnosis could increase breast size.
A Green Party source commented on the situation:
"Zack has repeatedly apologised for an interview he did with the Sun more than a decade ago.
Now, Zack is focussed on the issues that really matter to people: bringing down bills, protecting the NHS and rebuilding our public services."
Details of the 2013 Sun Article and Subsequent Statements
In 2013, the Sun published an article featuring Polanski offering hypnosis to a reporter to increase her cup size. The reporter claimed that the session, conducted at Polanski's Harley Street consulting room, had the desired effect.
After becoming leader of the Green Party in September 2025, Polanski distanced himself from the claim, stating he was misrepresented and that he apologized the day after the article was published on 12 June 2013.
The BBC requested the Green Party to provide evidence of the apology interview but found no record in programme archives. However, on 18 June 2013, Polanski appeared on BBC Radio Humberside and did not apologize but instead supported the claims.
Polanski's Radio Humberside Interview
During the interview with presenter Peter Levy, Polanski said:
"Actually increasingly more and more as I work with people, there's starting to become anecdotal evidence, at least, of a growth in breast size."
He described the hypnosis session as an "experiment" requiring further research and expressed hope that people would choose to become comfortable with themselves rather than seek enhancement.
"The evidence is growing," he added.
"I believe that it can happen in theory and I think it's definitely worth investing the time of evidence and research into hypnosis generally."
This interview contradicts Polanski's later claims of having apologized and being misrepresented.
Polanski's Public Statements Since Becoming Green Party Leader
In September of the previous year, Polanski was asked on Good Morning Britain if he believed hypnosis could enlarge a woman's breasts at the time of the original interview. He responded:
"I was misrepresented, I apologised a day later."
On the Pod Save the UK podcast the same month, he said:
"I went out on BBC Radio the next day, so not twelve years later when I became a politician, but literally the next day to go 'this article doesn't represent me'."
As deputy leader of the Green Party, he told LBC radio:
"I never believed that women's breasts can be enlarged through hypnotherapy.
I apologised immediately the day after the article 11 years ago to say that doesn't represent my work and that I don't stand by that article. I apologised because I recognised that would be offensive to people."
Labour Party Response
Following the emergence of the Radio Humberside interview, a Labour Party source criticized Polanski's statements:
"Zack Polanski's ego might have got bigger, but nothing else has.
It's now clear that his pretence to have been misrepresented over his breast enlargement hypnosis scam was absolute nonsense - he got called out years later, and he lied about it.
You can't trust a word he says - he'll say whatever he thinks you want to hear."
