A pedestrian has died after being hit by multiple vehicles, including a police car, in Carmarthen on Tuesday. Dyfed-Powys Police said officers were called after concerns for the safety of a person seen on the A40 between the PC World roundabout and Abergwili roundabout, and the crash happened as they reached the scene at about 21:50 BST.
The force said reports indicated several vehicles had collided with the pedestrian, including a marked police car that was being used for a routine patrol. Dyfed-Powys Police described the incident as a "six-vehicle" crash.
No arrests have been made and the force has referred itself to the Independent Office of Police Conduct. Inquiries to identify the pedestrian and their next of kin are under way.
Officers remain at the scene, and both carriageways of the road are likely to stay closed for a lengthy period of time. Motorists have been asked to avoid the area, and anyone with information is urged to contact Dyfed-Powys Police.
