Astronaut Shares Campus Photo from the ISS
A university received a photograph of its campus taken from orbit by a former student currently serving as a NASA astronaut aboard the International Space Station (ISS).
Captain Jack Hathaway captured the image during an orbit on Saturday and emailed it to the vice chancellor of Cranfield University in Bedfordshire the following day.
Background on Captain Jack Hathaway
The former US Navy pilot earned a Master of Science degree in flight dynamics from Cranfield University in 2014.

In his message, the 43-year-old astronaut explained that capturing the photograph required patience, as he had to wait for the appropriate orbital trajectory combined with a clear day of British weather.
University's Response
Professor Dame Karen Holford, the vice-chancellor of Cranfield University, expressed her appreciation for Hathaway's gesture.
"It's absolutely wonderful that Jack thought of us at Cranfield and took the time from his busy schedule to do this.
It really made me smile thinking of Jack on board the ISS trying to see our campus!"
Current Mission and Outreach
Captain Hathaway began his career with NASA in 2022. In January 2025, he visited Year 5 pupils at Holywell School, located near Cranfield University.
He is one of four astronauts currently participating in the SpaceX Crew-12 mission aboard the ISS, which launched on 13 February.
