Man Sentenced for Murder of Childhood Friend
A man has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his childhood friend in Aberdeen after stabbing him in the heart.
Brandon Booth, aged 25, attacked 24-year-old Dylan Geddes at a flat located in the Tillydrone area of Aberdeen in July of the previous year.
Booth entered a guilty plea to the charge of murder at the High Court in Glasgow.
Presiding Judge Lord Arthurson mandated that Booth serve a minimum of 18 years in prison before becoming eligible for parole consideration.
At the time of the incident, relatives of the victim expressed their grief, stating:
"Dylan was a much-loved son, grandson, brother and nephew."
On the day of the fatal incident, Geddes was present at Booth's residence.
There were seven individuals, including Booth, at the property who had been listening to music together, and the atmosphere was initially positive.
However, an argument developed between Booth and Geddes, who had been friends since childhood.
The court was informed that Booth reacted violently during the dispute.
Prosecutor Gordon Lindhorst detailed that Geddes was seen clutching his chest, which was bleeding.
Geddes managed to walk only a few steps outside the flat before collapsing on the ground.
A 999 emergency call was placed, and first aid was administered prior to the arrival of medical personnel.
Lindhorst further stated that Booth, riding his bicycle, passed by Geddes after the attack.
Geddes was transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
A post-mortem examination concluded that the cause of death was a stab wound to the chest that penetrated the heart.
Defense and Court Remarks
Mark Stewart, representing the defense, informed the court:
"The nature of the argument that developed isn't clear. It was probably an argument of not any good note however it escalated and one thing led to another with two young men who knew each other who ended up in a confrontation. Mr Booth escalated that and he used this weapon. He understands the consequences for Mr Geddes' family and apologises."
Lord Arthurson commented during sentencing:
"Mr Geddes leaves behind a loving family and close friends. He is survived by his parents, sister and grandmother. He was a young man who had a future life ahead of him and through your brutal violence that night, you took that away from him and his grieving family. This was an unprovoked attack and you fled the scene."
Family Statement
Following the incident, Geddes' relatives issued a statement expressing their sorrow:
"The family is absolutely devastated by what has happened. He will be sorely missed every day by all who knew him."
