Man Charged with Murder

A 37-year-old man from Cwmbran has been charged with the murder of a 74-year-old grandfather in Torfaen. In addition to the murder charge, he faces accusations of threats to kill and harassment. The suspect was scheduled to appear before Newport Magistrates' Court on Monday for remand proceedings.

Incident Details

Gwent Police reported that officers responded to a property on Bythway Road, Trevethin, near Pontypool, at approximately 16:55 BST last Thursday following reports of a man with serious injuries. Upon arrival, Nicholas "Brian" Parfitt, a resident of Trevethin, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Parfitt's family described him as a "well-loved dad and grandad" and expressed that his death was a shock to them. They are currently receiving support from police officers during this difficult time.

Senior investigating officer, Detective Chief Inspector Shelly Comley, addressed public interest in the case, emphasizing the importance of responsible communication.

"We understand that there has been a great deal of interest in this investigation.
We ask that people consider how their language, especially comments made online, could impact our ability to bring anyone found to have committed a criminal offence to justice," she added.
