A man has been charged with criminal damage after graffiti was sprayed on the statue of Sir Winston Churchill located in Parliament Square, according to police reports.

Caspar San Giorgio, 38, who has no fixed address, was arrested shortly after 04:00 on Friday morning.

He was taken into custody and formally charged on Saturday morning.

San Giorgio has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court later this morning.
