Man Charged with Arson in East London Former Synagogue Fire

Moses Edwards, 45, has been charged with arson after a fire at the former East London Central Synagogue on 5 May caused minor damage but no injuries.

Arson Charge Following Fire at Former Synagogue

A man has been charged in connection with an arson attack at a former synagogue located in East London.

Moses Edwards, aged 45, from Wanstead, faces charges of arson with intent to endanger life after the East London Central Synagogue building in Whitechapel was targeted on 5 May. He is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court later today.

Incident Details and Response

The Metropolitan Police and London Fire Brigade responded to the scene at 05:16 BST. The fire resulted in minor damage to a gate and lock at the front of the building. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Background on the Building

Police have stated that the former synagogue is currently in the process of being sold to a local Somali Muslim organisation.
