Man and woman die after being pulled from sea

A man and a woman died after being recovered from the water off Fistral Beach in Newquay, Cornwall, on Sunday evening. HM Coastguard, police, RNLI lifeboats and a coastguard helicopter attended.

Two people have died following an incident in the sea off Fistral Beach in Newquay, Cornwall. HM Coastguard said it was informed of the incident at about 21:30 BST on Sunday, and search and rescue teams from Newquay, Padstow and St Agnes were present, along with lifeboats from Newquay RNLI and a coastguard helicopter.

Devon and Cornwall Police said it was called by the South Western Ambulance Service at about 21:45 after reports that two people had been recovered from the water.

Police said a man and a woman were both confirmed dead at the scene.

The force said their families had been informed and a file would be prepared for the coroner.
