Inmate Charged with Murder of Soham Killer Ian Huntley
Police have confirmed that a prison inmate, Anthony Russell, 43, has been charged with the murder of Ian Huntley, the convicted Soham killer.
A spokesman for Durham Constabulary stated that Russell is scheduled to appear in court via video link on Wednesday.
Ian Huntley died on Saturday following an assault at HMP Frankland in Durham, which occurred at the end of February.
Huntley was the former school caretaker responsible for the 2002 murders of 10-year-olds Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman in the Cambridgeshire town of Soham.
"Emergency services were called to reports of an assault in the workshop on the morning of Thursday, February 26."
At the time of his death, Huntley was serving a life sentence with a minimum term of 40 years for the murders of the schoolgirls.
The Ministry of Justice has previously commented on the case, stating that Huntley's crime
"remains one of the most shocking and devastating cases in our nation's history, and our thoughts are with their families".
